Marathon Goals

As we’re getting closer and closer to this weekend’s marathon, I’ve been thinking about my goals!

(1) Finish my first marathon, have fun, smile lots, create memories and encourage those around me!

(2) Finish under 4 hours and 10 minutes. This is likely, this is in line with my training on the same course. Not easy-breezy, but in line with my training. It means around a 9:30 pace over 26.2 miles.

(3) Finish in under 4 hours! This isn’t impossible, since my 18 and 20 mile runs have been speedy, but this is my FIRST-EVER marathon and I don’t want to work too hard for a sub 9 minute pace. Too much thinking like this really did me in for the Zooma 1/2 marathon last month. I’ll let this happen as it may, trying not to even peek until the finish!

The weather is about to turn cold and wet for the remainder of this week, yikes! But so far so good for Sunday!

I’m absolutely loving the spirit of marathon season – the Internet is abuzz with tales from Chicago, San Francisco, the upcoming D.C. and New York marathons! It seems like everyone’s either running, tapering or recovering!

How did I ever become part of this world in just a few short months? I think I’ll be pinching myself all the way to the finish on Sunday :-)
